Introduction Letter

My name is Samm Kitzul, and I am very excited to be your student intern for this upcoming term! This is my second year at the University of Regina, and I am enjoying it more and more with every passing semester. I chose English as my major and fine arts as my minor because reading and drawing were two of my main passions growing up. I live in Balgonie, Saskatchewan which is where I grew up, and I appreciate the small town life.

I am eager to assist in the classroom in absolutely any way possible and I am open to teaching in any subject that works best for you. I feel that part of this opportunity includes getting students with little teaching experience, like me, out of their comfort zones to try new experiences. These experiences could include teaching a subject one is not used to, trying new teaching techniques, or getting the students attention in a different way. I would love to learn as much as possible and push the boundaries of my teaching beyond my comfort zone. I feel that this will ultimately enrich the eight week term as much as possible.

This experience is quite important to me as it is one of the first times I will be teaching a class on my own. While I do want to improve my overall teaching, there is one goal I want to specifically focus on over the next eight weeks. Although I genuinely enjoy speaking in front of a class and giving instruction, I do acutely struggle with nervousness and slight anxiety. Therefore, through teaching routinely over the next eight weeks, I want to work towards becoming comfortable in front of a class without perhaps feeling uncomfortable, shaky or unconfident. Therefore, this is a goal I have for myself as a teacher, and I will aim to achieve this through these eight weeks of field experience.

I cannot thank you enough for welcoming me into your classroom and mentoring me as a learning student. I am very excited for this field opportunity to begin and also get to know you and your students. While it may sound cliché, this field experience is a major stepping stone in my future career, and one I’m sure I will not forget. So thank you again and I very much look forward to our time together!
